Green Policy
hSo is committed to minimising the environmental impacts of our business operations.
To achieve this, we will:
1. Reduce our consumption of resources and improve efficiency in their use by, amongst other things re-using or recycling where possible. We currently recycle:
- All paper used within our office
- Used mobile phones
- Used printer cartridges
- Out-of-date, redundant Personal Computers
- All out-of-date, redundant IT & telecoms hardware (equipment which has been returned by customers, and also that which has been removed from hSo’s own extensive network)
- All used cans, plastic bottles & glass within our office
2. Promote individual and company awareness of good environmental practices by:
- Providing our technical staff with machine washable uniforms (dry cleaning is more harmful to the environment)
- Regularly instructing staff to power down all energy sources (PCs, lights, etc…) at the end of the working day and any other times when they are not in use.
3. Strive to continuously improve our environmental performance and integrate recognised applicable best practice into our business activities by:
- Printing on office paper from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved sources, thereby promoting the responsible management of the world’s forests (www.fsc.org)
- Using multi-functional tools (for printing, photocopying and faxing) within the office to reduce our energy output
4. Work closely with our suppliers to ensure environmental criteria are taken into account in the procurement of goods and services.
5. Encourage appropriate consideration of environmental issues in the services we provide to our clients:
- Specifically through virtualisation of their servers
- Developing media aimed at educating businesses (both prospects & customers) about their carbon footprint and presenting them with ways to innovatively minimise their carbon footprint
6. Endeavour to site our structures and operational equipment in order to minimise the visual, noise and other impacts on the local environment.
7. Review our environmental policy regularly by calculating our CO2 emissions and investigating ways to offset them.
