How SIP Trunking Works
Your phone system's PBX is connected to the public telephone network. Traditionally, this would have been done using expensive ISDN circuits.
You also connect to the Internet. This uses a completely separate connection.
SIP Trunking allows your phone calls and your data to travel over the same connection. It reduces or eliminates the need for ISDN circuits, and lowers your call costs.
Some companies save money by routing outgoing calls over SIP, and incoming calls over ISDN.
Others use SIP for both inbound and outbound calls, but leave some ISDN capacity in place to add extra resilience.
Other companies do away with ISDN entirely, and use a second data circuit to provide the resilience.
Each option has its merits. To learn the pros and cons of each, download our FREE guide to SIP Trunking.
